Brazil

In 1983, when I heard the missionaries who work among the indigenous people speak in my home church about the great need of missionaries among them, I decided to give my life to serve God as a missionary among the indigenous people. In 1984 I went to the Peniel Bible Institute in Minas Gerais, Brazil, to take the three-year Bible course. After the bible training, I did the missionary training in Mato Grosso do Sul, and, finally, I did the sociocultural language training in Goiás. All three training programmes were run by the Institute of the New Tribes Mission of Brazil (MNTB).

After four and a half years of training, I worked for three years in the New Tribes Mission of Brazil, at the Macedonian Bible Institute in Pernambuco and with the Guarani Tribe in Rio Grande do Sul. In 1992 I joined the Evangelical Mission to the Indians of Brazil (MEIB) to bring the Word of God to the Kayapo Indians, and I worked on this mission until 2015.

It was through my sister in Christ and friend Ruth Thomson, whom I met more than 20 years ago, that I heard about LAM. Since 2016, I am serving God through LAM. I am very grateful to God for being a member of LAM.

Our ministry is very diverse. Our goal is to bring the Word of God to the Kayapo Indians in Redenção and in the villages of the region. We distribute booklets of Bible verses to the Indians, we record biblical messages, the audio of the New Testament and songs on pen drives and memory cards. Together with Mr. Earl Trapp we share the Word of God with the Kayapo and Xikrin Indians in more than ten groups. We visit the Indians in their homes and receive them almost every day here at home. I visit the indigenous people in the city hospitals. And on Sundays, we meet with indigenous people from various villages in CASAI (Kayapo Indian Health House). We also visit the Indians in the support house where several families live. We support the local health team that works with indigenous people when asked to translate for a doctor or other health professional from Kayapo. I participate with my sister Miria in a chaplaincy ministry for non-indigenous people in two hospitals.
